THE LOVE STORY OF ALEX KAREV & IZZIE STEVENS



Season 1

The Love Story of Alex Karev & Izzie Stevens starts in episode 1x04. As soon as Alex discovers Izzie's photoshoot ads for Bethany Whisper. He copied them and decorated the locker room with them. Izzie walks in, she doesn't suspect anything. It seems that Izzie doesn't know what do, but she yells at Alex in a bad way, and nobody even thought that they ended up together.


Izzie: Fine! Let's look at that tattoo up close and personal, shall we? [She rips off her shirt and throws it at Alex] What are these? Oh, my God! Breasts! How does anybody practice medicine hauling these things around? And what have we got back here? Let’s see if I remember my anatomy. [Takes off her pants] Glutes, right? Let’s study them, shall we? Gather around and check out the booty that put Izzie Stevens through Med. school!

And that's not even everything she said to him.(And the rest of the people in the lockerroom)

Just one episode later Izzie isn't mad anymore. Alex isn't her biggest friend, but still.

Izzie throws a party and orders stuff by phone. Alex overhears, and helps her out. Izzie says she ignores him, but orders everything that Alex told her to do.

In episode 1.06 we can see that Izzie still doesn't like Alex. Then a patient throws up on him and Izzie's answer:


Izzie: You are so my favorite person today.

And when she finds out that Alex didn't change his pagers batteries, while she was paging him, she gets really mad at him.


Season 2


In episode 2.01 they are working together and Izzie starts to see something in Alex.

George punched Alex in the face for the whole syphilis thing. At the end of the episode Alex thanks George and hugs him. Izzie sees all this and smiles.


In the meantime Izzie learns that Alex has had a difficult life before he came to Seattle, by treating a patient with the same sort of history.

But I think, their love story starts for real in episode 2.03. Alex and Izzie hang out together, and that is noticed by their fellow interns.

George, Cristina and Meredith think it's weird that Izzie hangs out with Alex. George asks if Izzie has a thing for Alex but Izzie assures him, she hasn't. Yeah Right. On the stairs, Alex takes an eyelash from Izzie's face and says she should make a wish.


Alex: Wait
Izzie: What?
Alex: You have an eyelash. [Places eyelash on palm] Make a wish and blow it away. [Speaking to other nurse] Hey, Nurse Ratchet, there's a dead guy
stinking up room 4125. Do something before he rots.
Izzie: [walking away] See, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Why are you so afraid of showing people you are a decent human being?

George interrupts them and asks if Izzie remembers the moment when Alex decorated the lockerroom with pictures of her halfnaked. Izzie does remember and walks away. Alex gets mad at George for this. This episode ends with some shameless flirting.


Izzie: How can someone be so offensive and yet so charming all at the same time?
Alex: It's an art form.

Izzie tries to ask Alex out, but Alex makes fun of her. Then he asks her out himself. When Alex picks her up at Joe's, he is very distant, but only because the chief just told him, he failed his exams. When they get back, Izzie thinks it's the best date ever, since Alex treated her like crap all the time. Alex says he had a really good time, but he doesn't kiss her, which pisses Izzie off again.


Izzie: I had a good time. Really. Thank you. It's the perfect evening. Best date ever.
Alex: Izzie.
Izzie: You know I especially like the part where you treated me like crap the entire night. That was fun.
Alex: I had a good time.
Izzie: Really?
Alex: Yeah.
[Izzie leans in, hoping...waiting for a goodnight kiss]
Alex: I gotta go.
Izzie: Seriously?! Seriously?!!

She decides, she doesn't talk to him anymore, and she doesn't. They share a look when Alex and George are stuck in the elevator, but that's it.

At the end of episode 2.07, Izzie is at Joe's with Meredith, George and Cristina. Alex walks in and stands next to Izzie. Izzie asks what he wants, and then he kisses her. When they're done, Alex wishes her goodnight, and the only thing that Izzie can say is: wow.


Izzie wants to talk to Alex about what happened.

Izzie: You kissed me.
Alex: Yes, I did.
Izzie: Should we?... I mean, there's a discussion that we could have... if you wanted to have one?
Alex: Izzie, I kissed you, with tongue, and I plan to do it again and again - get used to it. End of discussion.
Izzie: Ok.



Alex: Here's the thing - I like your rack.
Izzie: God, what is wrong with you? Why do you have to be so - what is wrong with you?
Alex: I like your rack and I'd want them around if I could have them, trust me I would, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if you got rid of them... because really, I'd want you.
[Izzie slaps him]
Alex: Ow! What was that for?
[she kisses him]


Izzie and Alex are about to sleep together as they walk in Izzie's house. But next morning Izzie tells George that Alex has some problems. They keep trying.

Izzie: Hey. I’ve been looking for you.
Alex: Hey.
Izzie: I’m on the quints case.
Alex: Yeah I heard.
Izzie: Yeah they’re going to need multiple surgeries once they’re delivered. I put you on the pager list (she smiles) so you’re in too.
Alex (looks uncomfortable): Yeah I kinda got my own cases to worry about. So
Izzie: Okay Alex, was it me? Because we seem to actually be having a normal time. A good time.
Alex: Yeah we were having a good time.
Izzie: Well then was it me? Was it something I did or …
Alex: It wasn’t you. (he shrugs) I just … just didn’t feel like doing it. I was tired, you know?
Izzie (smiles): Well do you feel like doing it tonight?
Alex (half nods but still looks uncomfortable): I’m on call, so …
Izzie: Okay, well do you feel like doing it now?
Alex (intrigued): What right now?
Izzie: People have sex in this hospital all the time.


And Izzie thinks it's her, but Alex assures her it isn't. After Alex kinda killed his patient, he and Olivia, his ex, are sitting on a bed. Izzie walks in the room, searching for Alex, but Alex and Olivia aren't sitting anymore. Alex lays on top of her. Izzie turns around and walks away.


Izzie is really mad at Alex. And ofcourse she has all the right to. Alex tries to talk to her but she won't.

It's Christmas and Alex has to re-take his test. Meredith knows about this and helps him. Then Cristina finds out, and helps him too. And then George. And then... Izzie. Izzie is pissed as she discovers that her friends are helping Alex. Meredith explains to her why they are helping him and Izzie decides to help him. When Alex is examinating her, she cries. Alex sits next to her and says he never meant to hurt her. But crying is a symptone of Izzie's fake disease.

Alex: Is the nausea constant or intermittent?
Izzie: Constant.
Alex: When did it first start?
Izzie: After I worked in the fields all day.
Alex: Do you have any allergies you're aware of?
Izzie: No. [Starts crying]
Alex: Izzie, I never wanted to hurt you.
Izzie: You didn't hurt me. I don't even know you. I'm a farmer.
Alex: You're, you're still the patient?
Izzie: What does it look like?
Alex: It's organo phosphates. Pesticide poisoning. Crying is a symptom, that's it right?


In episode 2.13, Izzie forgives Alex. Alex is glad, but then a new patient is brought in; Denny Duquette. He and Izzie seems to have chemistry. Not many Alex/Izzie moments follow, When Alex gets his test results, he asks Izzie to open them. Izzie does, and he gets to stay at Seattle Grace.


Izzie: Congratulations, you're not an idiot. Except when you are being an idiot.

In episode 2.16, the famous bomb episode, Izzie takes Alex to the linen closet and says he has to take off his pants. They have a lot of moments in this episode and episode 2.17. But they are only sleeping together. Alex is sure that Izzie has forgiven him, but Meredith thinks she hasn't.


Izzie: Take off your pants.
Alex: Izzie, what are you doing?
Izzie: I'm being a doer. Getting while the getting's good. Now take off your pants.
Alex: You realize when I said the apocalypse before, I meant it metaphorically, not literally.
Izzie: Alex, I haven't had sex in eight months and twelve days. I'm horny, I'm half-naked, and I'm saying yes. Do you want to stand there and talk metaphors, or do you want to literally take off your pants?

When Denny Duquette returns, Alex knows that Meredith is probably right. Izzie even forgets about her plans with Alex, to have a stupid fake picknick with Denny.

Alex tells Denny that he and Izzie are together. Denny believes him and when Izzie finds out Alex told him this, she yells at him.


In episode 2.21 Izzie breaks up with Alex, saying that Denny is twice the man he will ever be. Alex is devastated. He tries to hide it very well though.

Izzie: Just so we're clear, we're over, Alex. This is over.
Alex: What? You're breaking up with me over a corpse?
Izzie: No! No! I'm breaking up with you because, on your very best day, that corpse... is twice the man you will ever be. You're not good enough for me, Alex. You're not good enough for anyone.


In the season finale, Denny dies. Now Izzie is devastated. Alex is the only one that talks to her. Izzie cries, and Alex takes her up and holds her, while she is crying.

Izzie: Can you please, please, just get out? I want to be alone with Denny.
Alex: Izzie, that’s not Denny.r> Izzie: Shut up.
Alex: Izz, its not Denny. The minute his heart stopped beating he stopped being Denny. Now I know you love him, but he also loved you. And a guy that loves you like that, he doesn't want you to do this to yourself. Because it's not Denny, not anymore.
Izzie: An hour ago he was proposing. And now . . . and now he's going to the morgue. Isn't that ridiculous? Isn't it the most ridiculous piece of crap you've ever heard? [starts sobbing]
[Alex picks her up, cradling her, and sits down on a chair holding and rocking her while she sobs]


Season 3



Izzie quits at the hospital. When she is trying to come back, she is standing outside all day. At the end of day, Alex is the one that gets her home again.


Alex: Does it hurt?
Izzie: Yeah.
Alex: Where does it hurt?
Izzie: Everywhere...
Alex: Maybe it hurts for a reason.

In Episode 3x05 Bailey feels guilty about what happened to Izzie, cutting the Lvad wire. Alex tells Bailey that she wasn't the only one. He knew about it all the time and didn't do anything. He feels guilty for Izzie too.


When Izzie is finaly back as an intern, she notices that a lot of things has changed, and she and Alex share some intense looks together in their lunch break.


Everyday Izzie gets another person appointed she has to follow. In Episode 3x08 she has to work with Alex. Alex is with Sloan and he has to pick up his dry cleaning and food. Izzie can't believe that Alex does that kind of things for Sloan. Together they to the orders Sloan gave to them.

Alex: "Dr. Stevens is shadowing me today, so-"
Izzie: "Which one of these cases do you need us on?"
Mark: "It's a really tragic one. I found out just this morning that I have over two weeks worth of dry cleaning that needs to be picked up. Stat."
Alex: "Cool, that's it?"
Mark: "See, we're like a well-oiled machine, you and me. I also need you two to get me a sandwich from that pathetic excuse for a deli. You know the one I like, Karev. Oh, and go easy on the mayo this time. I think you're trying to kill me."


Izzie: "Tell me again why you put up with this crap?"
Alex: "Because one of these days he's gonna crack and let me in on a case."
Izzie: "You sure you wanna do plastics that badly?"
Mark: "There you are! What, did you go all the way to New York for my pastrami?"
Alex: "Extra spicy, extra lettuce, light on the mayo."

After that they go the patient. Izzie compares the patients fake boobs, with Alex', when Sloan enters.


Frank, their patient, talks about himself in the third person. And so do Izzie and Alex now.

George: "Why aren't you bragging about decanutlating the heart?"
Cristina: "I didn't decanulate the heart."
Izzie: "Izzie and Alex do not believe you."
Meredith: "Okay, what are you two doing?"
Izzie: "Izzie and Alex have a patient who speaks about himself in the third person."
Alex: "They thought it was annoying at first, but now they kinda like it."


When Alex talks alone to Frank, he realises that he still has feelings for Izzie. Then when Izzie is back, Alex brings her his grand gesture, and lets her remove the drain.


Izzie is really happy and says that Alex rocks. Then Alex kisses her, and for us A/I fans, this is THE kiss of the season.


Izzie can't do it.


Later Alex is sitting alone at Joe's. Izzie finds him and he apologizes.

Izzie: "I didn't know you still feel that way about me."
Alex: "I didn't either."

Izzie: "I... I can't... I just..."
Alex: "Alex gets it. Alex is sorry he's such an idiot."
Izzie: [laughs] "Can Izzie buy Alex a drink?"


In episode 3x10 Izzie, Alex and George are sticking together against Christina. And they all work together on a case.
At the end, Alex and Izzie let Christina off the hook but George refuses.


Meredith: "Izzie, you cut the LVAD wire and she stuck by you and did Denny's ECHO. Alex cheated on Izzie with syph nurse and she helped you study for your boards. And George, when everybody was calling you 007-"
George: "She was calling me 007."
Meredith: "Just let her off the hook."
Alex: "It's okay."
Izzie: "Sorry."

When the new free clinic is opened, Izzie and Alex go to steal patients together like a true team.


In episode 3x18 Scars and Souvenirs, Izzie just finished taking a shower as Alex walks in. She freaks out about and learns that Alex moved in with her and Meredith.


Izzie: "Alex!? God!"
Alex: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've seen it all before."
Izzie: "What the hell are you doing here?"
Alex: "Movin' in."
Izzie: "What?!"

Izzie doesn't want Alex to move in at all,but Alex tells her that he is not interested.


At the end of that day Izzie and Alex talk in the kitchen. Alex says he has to go to someone, and Izzie sees that he's is not joking. She thought that he still was interested. Izzie asks Alex is she is always going to be alone, Alex hopes not. Alex kisses her on her cheek and leaves.


Later on in season 3, they live like roomies and take tequila shots with Meredith.


Season 4


At the beginning of the 4th season Alex and Izzie are both wrapped up in their own things. Izzie is busy with George and Callie, and Alex misses Ava. But when Izzie thinks Callie is gonna kick her ass, there is only person that is good enough to help her: Alex. She asks him for a favour.



Izzie: Alex, I need a favor.
Alex: I don't have time for favors. I'm working here.
Izzie: Well, what are you doing at lunch?
Alex: According to my interns, I'm watching Torres kick your ass all up and down the cafeteria.

The Chief's niece Camille is brought in to the hospital and Alex and Izzie both help her. They work on her case for that day.



Izzie: She needs a surgical airway. Somebody get me a crike tray.
Alex: How many emergency crikes have you done?
Izzie: Including this one? One.
Alex: Dude, it's the chief's niece.

Alex only wants to help Izzie is she tells him what she did to Callie. Izzie decides to tell him, but is surprised by the way Alex reacts.



Alex: Well, you fight. Camille's a fighter. You two have that in common. So what's it gonna be, Stevens gets her bones broken or Torres gets taken to the trailer park?
Izzie: Neither. It's not happening. But if it does, will you pull her off me?
Alex: You gonna tell me what you did to her?
Izzie: You have to promise not to say anything to anybody. Swear.
Alex: I swear. Jeez.
Izzie: I slept with George. I know. I'm a terrible person. Which is why I'm gonna let her get one good punch in. Maybe two. I deserve it. No, one. Then you pull her off me.
Alex: You slept with O'Malley?
Izzie: Alex, you just said you wouldn't say anything.
Alex: I won't, believe me. This...I'm embarrassed for you.

Alex is really dissapointed in Izzie, and at the end of the day, when she faced Callie and George, she aks Alex why he is so mad. He slept with a married person too.



Izzie: What, I'm invisible now?
Alex: What do you want?
Izzie: So you hate me now, too. Well, join the club.
Alex: You and O'Malley? O'Malley!
Izzie: What? What is it that I did that is so horrifying? I fell in love, Alex.
Alex: He's married.
Izzie: Yeah, so? You're carrying a big ol' torch for Ava or Jane Doe or whatever it is that you call her, and she's married. So what gives you the right to judge what I do? Why do you even care?
Alex: You told me you weren't ready yet...after Denny... to be with anyone. And then O'Malley? O'Malley. And then you tell me like I'm one of your chick friends. Come on.

But how mad or disapointed or jealous he really is, when he finds Izzie home crying, he brings her a box of tissues.



In Episode 4x05 Haunt You Everyday, Izzie and Alex both can't sleep and they are sitting in the kitchen together.



Their patients couldn't be more annoying in episode 4x07 and Bailey gives them orders to put their patients in the same room. And since Alex and Izzie have more respect for Bailey then Callie, they listen to her.



When they come back the next day, they discover that their patients really like each other. Izzie is shocked to find out that even those two have chemistry.



In episode 4x11 it seems like Alex and Izzie are getting closer. In the morning Alex aks is she is getting up already because she's going to be late for work. Izzie tells him that she hates work, Cristina, and Hahn.



Later that day, Izzie tells Alex that she wants the faith that Cristina has. So that she knows what she wants.


Alex wants Izzie to talk his patient through surgery. The patient doesn't want Alex to do it, because he doesn't believe in her healing way. He tells the patient that Izzie is optimistic, the opposite of him (And we all know opposites attract).



Alex: Yang's got nothing on you!
